CHOICES has replaced ‘Shop and Compare Rates’ as the Florida Insurance Website.  In 2007, former Florida Governor Charlie Crist together with Kevin McCarthy of the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation launched the Florida Insurance website ‘Shop and Compare Rates’ to help Florida residents find the most suitable and most economical insurance policies that suits their needs perfectly.

The Florida Insurance website is actually an interactive tool meant to help Florida consumers compare home insurance rates throughout the 67 Florida counties. Shop and Compare Rates is user friendly and intuitive. You just have to click on a particular county and out pops another window containing a representative list of insurance companies and their rates sorted out from the lowest to the highest. It features links to the shortlisted companies’ contact details.

For some reason the old consumer-friendly site ‘Shop and Compare Rates’ was taken down. The old Florida Insurance website was a great help to Floridians in searching for the best deal on their home insurance coverage. Although the site belonged to the governor’s office it was regularly updated by the Office of Insurance Regulation. It was taken down shortly after the new governor was sworn in purportedly to have it reviewed, updated and enhanced.

Nothing of that sort happened. Instead, an enhanced version was launched as a special page in the website of the Office of Insurance Regulation. It was called Consumer Home Owners’ Insurance Comparison Electronic System or CHOICES for short.

CHOICES offer the best tool to help consumers shop for the best home insurance rates available. It is just as user-friendly as the old site and reflects rates based on the most recent rate filings as approved by the Office of Insurance Regulation. However, the rates reflected here are for comparison purposes only and are based on just two risk samples. Actual rates will vary according to individual circumstances. To get an official quote, you need to contact the insurance companies you choose.

Florida is one of the few states who are genuinely concerned with providing affordable home insurance coverage to its constituents. It is one of only two states in the country that has a state sponsored insurance company to provide home insurance coverage to high risk policy owners who have been denied coverage by mainstream insurance companies. In fact, the state sponsored Florida Citizens Property Insurance Company has been dubbed as the home insurance of last resort.
